3/2-harmonic radiation originates from the interaction of a high intensity femtosecond laser pulse with a laser produced plasma. This instability growths exponentially in time in the linear regime.
We measured the pulse duration of the 3/2-harmonic signal using a specially designed SHG autocorrelator with high sensitivity. Applying a discrimination technique allows to measure the 3/2-harmonic pulse duration as a function of the 3/2 ω energy for a constant laser intensity. From such a measurement it is possible to deduce the growth rate of the instability.
