Thermodynamic Properties of Dense Hydrogen — •Hauke Juranek and Ronald Redmer — Uni Rostock, FB Physik, 18051 Rostock, Germany

In recently reported single shock-wave laser-driven experiments, the principal Hugoniot was determined up to 300 GPa. It has been shown that dissociation of hydrogen molecules becomes operative under such ultra-high pressures. We have generalized the standard fluid variational theory for a one-component system to a two-component system with a reaction (dissociation) [1]. We use this model to calculate the thermodynamic properties of dense hydrogen, sound velocity, and heat capacity. The results are compared with standard equation of states for hydrogen.
