The asymmetric fiber sgnac interferometer as a possibility of noise-reduction and puls-shaping in modern high bitrate telecommunication systems — •A. Wietfeld, M. Meißner, N. Korolkova, A. Sizmann, and G. Leuchs — Lehrstuhl für Optik,Friedrich Alexander Universität, 91058 Erlangen
In order to improve the capacity of optical
fibre communication channels one has to study the effects
limitineg the bitrate. These are amplifyer noise (Amplified
Stimulated Emisson = ASE) and nonlinear effects. Both lead to
fluctuations in the detected signal amplitude causing bit errors.
We show how an asymmetric fiber Sagnac interferometer can be used
to achieve pulse shaping and amplifyer noise reduction within a
fiber-optical high speed communication system in order to preserve
the optical signal to noise ratio.
