The nonlinear effect of stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) is widely used for realizing phase conjugating mirrors (PCMs). To observe a reflectivity of 1%, usually these mirrors need a definite light power of 1 kW or more. During the last years this SBS-threshold could be decreased below 100 W, by the use of optical fibers and capillary waveguides as SBS-media.
We present another possibility to decrease the SBS-threshold further, which is independent of the interaction geometry. Optical feedback is used to enhance the stimulated scattering. Experimental results will be shown for different kinds of feedback schemes. The experimental part is accompanied by comprehensive numerical simulations.
