Investigations for the efficient generation of powerful radiation at 82.6 nm by frequency tripling of short–pulse KrF laser radiation will be presented. As nonlinear medium a pulsed argon gas jet is used. So far pulse energies at 82.6 nm of 26 µJ for a pump energy of 15 mJ could be measured. Problems of absolute energy measurement and the efficient separation of pump and harmonic radiation will be discussed, profil investigations will be presented. By further optimization and the use of the full excimer laser pump power of 50 mJ, more than 100 µJ at 82.6 nm are expected. Possible applications of this source will be outlined.
