Optical manipulation of cold colllisions: influence of near resonant light fields on asymptotic energy levels — •Christian Samuelis, Tanja Laue, Horst Knöckel, and Eberhard Tiemann — Universität Hannover, Institut für Quantenoptik, gefördert im SFB 407

We present results of our Na2 molecular beam experiment where we studied the effect to asymptotic vibrational levels of the A 1Σu+ state by a laser field near resonant to the atomic sodium 3p → 3d transition. We observe shifts and in case when the coupling laser is resonant to molecular states at the 3s+3d asymptote also splittings of rovibrational lines which are interpreted as AC-Stark effect of the asymptotic levels of the A state. This experiment will be extended to the Na2 ground state asymptote where the effect of near resonant light fields will be investigated [1]. With a Franck-Condon pumping step and a coherent STIRAP-like pumping scheme, we are able to observe the bound level structure directly below and also resonances between the ground state asymptotes. With the expected level shifts, we can make precise quantitative predictions on the behavior of long range interactions in presence of laser fields. Especially we will be able to predict properties of optically induced Feshbach resonances, recently observed in photoassociation experiments [2]. We will report the current status of the experiment.
