The coherent state approach developed in [1] for the collective dynamics of ions confined in electromagnetic quadrupole traps is applied to quantum metric description of nonclassical motional states. Various Schrödinger cat states, even and odd squeezed and nonlinear coherent states are constructed. The decoherence in the dynamics of trapped ions prepared in these states is studied. The Bures distance and fidelity for considered nonclassical states have been computed. The classical distinguishability an d the preparation of delocalized mesoscopic states are also discussed.
