Ultra Cold Atoms in Magnetic Traps on the Atomchip — •Thorsten Schumm, Alexander Kasper, Stephan Schneider, Markus Bartenstein, and Jörg Schmiedmayer — Physikalisches Institut, Universität Heidelberg, Philosophenweg 12, 69120 Heidelberg
To produce a large ensemble of ultra cold atoms as a source for magnetic microscopic waveguides, we set up a double MOT system with low background pressure in the final trap.
The precooled atoms are loaded via a wire trap into a linear magnetic trap which is located on the Atomchip. Wire traps are particularly suited for further cooling and compression of the atomic ensemble because of the trap frequencies and their controllability. par The present state of the experiment is described, including new data.
