Yb2+-doped fluorides - preparational aspects and spectroscopic evaluation of laser potential — •Katja Rademaker, Markus Henke, and Stefan Kück — Institut für Laser-Physik, Universität Hamburg, Jungiusstrasse 9a, 20355 Hamburg

Subject of this presentation will be the preparation and the spectroscopic properties of Yb2+ in MgF2, LiSrAlF6, LiCaAlF6, and KMgF3. The research in this field is of great interest with respect to the development of a tunable solid state laser material in the ultraviolet and visible spectral range. The Yb2+-doped fluorides exhibit broadband emission and excitation bands, which correspond to 4f14 ↔ 4f136s and 4f14 ↔ 4f135d transitions of Yb2+. In addition to the absorption spectra, the temperature dependent excitation and emission spectra as well as decay times will be discussed. Energy level schemes for Yb2+ in the different host lattices on the basis of the strong field assignment will be presented. Furthermore ESA-measurements will be shown.
