Highpower, ultrastable, continuous-wave, single-frequency Nd:YAG lasers are required in inter satellite communication systems. At present the most promising approach to reach the requirements is to apply a diode pumped monolithic miniature ring laser (MISER). However, the output power of these systems is limited about 1 W. For power enhancement the complex technique of injection locking is commonly applied. So far, the power is restricted to several watts due to small core diameters and long interaction lengths of traditional single mode fibers and leading to unacceptable nonlinear distortions. In this contribution, we report on the amplification of a monolithic Nd:YAG ring laser with 3 kHz linewidth up to 15 W in a cladding-pumped, ytterbium-doped large-mode-area fiber (MFD = 30 µm) with near diffraction limited beam quality (M2 = 1.3). Spectral properties and power scaling limitations due to nonlinear effects such as stimulated Brillouin scattering will be discussed.
