Femtosecond pump-probe investigation of ultrafast Ag nanoparticle deformation in a glass matrix — •Jens Lange, Monika Kaempfe, Klaus-Jürgen Berg, and Heinrich Graener — Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg, Fachbereich Physik, 06099 Halle

Femtosecond pump-probe experiments were performed to investigate the time dependence of laser-induced particle deformation in glass. After laser excitation at a wavelength close to the surface plasmon resonance, transient extinction changes were measured both in a single color experiment and with supercontinuum probing.

It depends from the intensity of the laser pulse, if the deformation of the nanoparticles is durable or not. For both cases the different relaxation behaviour was determined on time scales ranging from sub-picoseconds to some hundred ps. Possible mechanisms for these processes are discussed.
