Cavity ring-down spectroscopy (CRDS) is a highly sensitive laser absorption
method. It has so far mostly been used for measurements in the gas phase.
With a
spectra of a molecularly thin layer of iodine as an example we show that
CRDS
is also excellently applicable for the examination of thin condensed phase
samples. Placing the solid samples directly onto the surface of the cavity
mirrors we are able to reach minimal scattering losses. The thin films are
measured at normal pressure.
The iodine spectra were taken in the frequency range of 16200 to
17200 cm−1
using pulsed cavity ring-down spectroscopy.
