The In+ ion is a very promising candidate for an optical frequency standard. This paper deals with the lasers necessary to investigate the clock transition: The fourth harmonic of the 946 nm line of the Nd:YAG laser can be used to excite the narrow 1S03P0 line. We have built two diode laser pumped Nd:YAG lasers, one in a linear configuration made from discrete optical elements and one quasi-monolithic nonplanar ring laser and have frequency-stabilized the lasers to two stable reference resonators of high finesse. The beat signal between the two independent systems shows a linewidth of 2.2 Hz for an averaging time of 2 s. Application of the system to ultrahigh-resolution spectroscopy of In+ will be described.
