Stabilization of quantum algorithms with detected jump correcting quantum codes — •Michael Mussinger, Aldo Delgado, and Gernot Alber — Abteilung für Quantenphysik, Universität Ulm, Albert-Einstein-Allee 11, 89069 Ulm
One of the main challenges in quantum information processing is the stabilization of a quantum algorithm against external perturbations leading to decoherence. A class of embedded quantum codes is presented that stabilizes distinguishable qubits against spontaneous decay. The given quantum jump codes use active and passive error correction methods and additionally the classical information about which qubit has been affected by the environment. In this way, the number of recovery operations and the redundancy can be minimized. The implementation of algorithms for jump codes and the detection and recovery is discussed. Numerical simulations are presented which demonstrate the stability of this error-correcting technique. Generalisations of these codes are described which are based on methods of combinatorial design theory.
