Measurement of gravitational force at short distance — •Luca Haiberger, Norbert Lümmen, and Stephan Schiller — Institut für Experimentalphysik, Univ. Düsseldorf
Recent theoretical efforts to unify gravity with the standard model have raised the possibility that gravity-like forces exist and act over macroscopic distances (∼ 1 mm). Moreover string inspired theories introduced the notion of ”compact extra dimensions”, which modifies the Newton’s Law at small distances. We present an experiment, based on the use of a micromachined oscillator with a very high quality factor (∼ 105), designed to measure gravity down to 50 µm.
