Optimised Hit Reconstruction for the ZEUS Microvertex Detector — •Vincenzo Chiochia and Tancredi Carli — DESY, Hamburg, Germany
The microvertex detector of the ZEUS collaboration consists of single-sided silicon strip detectors with 512 read-out strips and five capacity coupled intermediate strips. The optimal resolution, determined with a 6 GeV electron test beam, of about 14 micrometers for perpendicular tracks, can only be achieved by taking the non-linear charge sharing into account. It has been observed that the charge sharing can significantly change along the strips, for example in the region in which bond pads are located. Therefore hit reconstruction algorithms independent of any assumption on charge sharing have been developed. These algorithms provide a resolution of less than 20 micrometers in all regions of the detector. In addition, they ensure a relatively stable resolution of 20-40 micrometers for particles crossing the detectors at angles between 0 and 40 degrees.
