A (γ,γ’) experiment on 88Sr has been performed
at the S-DALINAC accelerator
of the TU Darmstadt.
In the search for the 1− two-phonon
state with the structure (21+ ⊗ 31−)
in the N=50 nucleus 88Sr
we found angular momentum and parity Jπ=1+ for the 4.742 MeV
state [1].
Four further dipole states have been observed in the energy region
4.5 MeV ≤ Ex ≤ 5.5 MeV.
The deexcitation pattern of the Jπ=1+ state at 4.742 MeV in
88Sr is similar to that of the scissors mode observed in 94Mo
[2]. Therefore the 4.742 MeV state is proposed to be
a scissors-like state in the spherical nucleus 88Sr on top of the
quadrupole vibrational state. This scissors-like excitation may arise
from a superposition of the isoscalar and isovector quadrupole
vibrations.
