Elliptic Flow in Au+Au Collisions at SIS — •Tarek Kress — Gesellschaft für Schwerionenforschung, Darmstadt, Germany
In heavy ion collisions the properties of the hot and compressed matter influence the reaction dynamics which may result in specific collective flow effects.
The FOPI-detector at the GSI identifies charged particles over the whole phase space which allows the determination of the reaction plane and the measurement of the directed and the elliptic flow.
The excitation function of the elliptic flow in Au+Au collisions at beam energies from .4 to 1.5 AGeV will be presented (we have studied the v2-coefficient at midrapidity as function of transverse momentum). Special attention has been devoted to deduce the elliptic flow over the full transverse momentum range. This allows to join up to already existing proton flow data at lower and higher incident energies. So an excitation function over an energy range of more than two orders of magnitude can be established and will be discussed.
The change of the observables with centrality and beam energy may be used to constrain imput parameter of transport models and determine the equation of state of nuclear matter in a model-dependent way. Therefore the data will be compared to predictions from the IQMD model.
