Two pion production on the proton in hadronic processes — •Sonja Schneider, Siegfried Krewald, and Josef Speth — Institut für Kernphysik, Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH, 52425 Jülich
We investigate the π N and ππ N decay of nuclear resonances in the framework of a meson exchange model. The Jülich model of the coupled reaction channels π N, η N, πΔ, σ N and ρ N can describe the π N phase shifts and inelasticities up to c.m. energies of 1.8 GeV [1]. We now extend this model to ππ N final states by considering the decay of the effective ππ N states πΔ, σ N and ρ N.
As a starting point we have taken into account tree level contributions for the reaction π N → ππ N. By including final state interaction in the dominantly contributing diagrams, a fair description of the data can be achieved.
