Subthreshold K+ Production in pA Reactions at ANKE — •M. Nekipelov — Institut für Kernphysik, Forschungszentrum Jülich, 52425 Jülich — Petersburg Nuclear Physics Institute, 188350 Gatchina, Russia
Measurements of double differential cross sections d2σ /dΩdpK+ of K+-meson production in proton-nucleus collisions have been performed with the ANKE spectrometer at COSY Jülich. The data have been obtained for diamond, copper and gold strip targets and beam energies Tp = 1.0… 2.3 GeV, i.e. above and far below the free nucleon-nucleon threshold (1.58 GeV). The main experimental challenge is that at 1.0 GeV the background (mostly pions and protons) is ∼ 106 more intense than the signal (kaons). The detection system of ANKE allows to suppress this huge background and to detect K+-mesons at forward angles in the momentum range pK∼ 200… 500 MeV/c.
In the talk the analysis procedure will be discussed and the results will be presented: double differential K+ production cross section for p(1.0GeV)C→ K+X as a function of K+-momentum and the target-mass dependence of the K+-meson production cross section that could be extracted from the data on p Cu and p Au collisions.
