Display Systems for Automotive Applications — •G.P. van der Beek — Philips Mobile Display Systems

Mobile Display Systems is one of the largest growing business groups of Philips. Apart from the business line Avionics & Automotive, this business group also comprises the business lines Telecom and Smart Handheld Applications. Although specifications might be rather different for these business lines more and more display features are becoming generic because of new ways of using displays.

The display modules are the most appealing components in the dashboard of cars. It used to be a simple and monochrome (LCD) output device, displaying characters and symbols. Currently, the display module for these applications should more and more be considered as a "human interface" device. Examples of new developments supporting the human interface function are high multiplex color displays, displays capable for video, touch screen input, and wireless communication.

The presentation will be dedicated to specific display developments for the automotive industry, but also aspects related to generic interface functions of displays will be highlighted.
