Magnetooptical response from Fe microstructures — •Till Schmitte, Safak Goek, Oliver Schwöbken, Kurt Westerholt, and Hartmut Zabel — Institut für Experimentalphysik IV, Ruhr-Universität Bochum, 44780 Bochum
Microstructured ferromagnetic thin film systems exhibit interesting
magnetooptical properties. We compare the magnetooptical response
(longitudinal Kerr effect) at
interference spots of polycrystalline and single crystal Fe stripes.
Width and separation of the stripes vary in the range of a few micrometers,
their thickness is approx. 30 nm. Laser light scattered by these
samples show diffraction patterns and the MOKE signal at off-specular
reflection (Bragg-MOKE) is modulated due to interference effects. Regular
domain patterns of such stripes result in characteristic modifications of
the
Bragg-MOKE hysteresis loops. This technique might be a reciprocal
complement
to real space observation via Kerr microscopy and MFM.
