Since the physical origin of the anomalous Hall effect is the spin-orbit coupling, one can either describe it in the framework of the Pauli Hamiltonian, as it is generally done in the literature, or in the framework of the Dirac Hamiltonian. The latter approach has a great advantage because it allows an exact determination of the vertex corrections, i.e. the anomalous Hall resistivity, whereas the former approach needs approximations. Numerical codes based on this relativistic approach have been developed and used to calculate the anomalous Hall resistivity of a simplified model for ferromagnetic alloys. The results allow to clarify the roles of the two different mechanisms which contribute to the anomalous Hall effect (side-jump and skew-scattering) as well as the influence of disorder. In addition, they are consistent with previous analytical calculations which were restricted to weak-disorder and weak-relativistic limits.
