We report on magnetic susceptibility, magnetization, electric resistivity and ESR experiments on single crystals of TlFeX2(X=S,Se) and polycrystals of TlFeTe2. The magnetic and ESR measurements show that TlFeS2 and TlFeSe2 exhibit features typical for a one-dimensional Heisenberg antiferromagnet with TN=196K and TN=295K respectively. Below TN, within the 3d ordered phase, magnetic moments are oriented perpendicular to the chain axis. The electric resistivity reveals semiconducting behavior in both systems. For TlFeTe2 the ESR results suggest one-dimensional behavior as well. However the system undergoes an insulator to metal transition with decreasing temperature at 90K.
