Thin films of TbBaCo2O6−δ cobaltite have been prepared for the first time. The c axis-oriented films were deposited using pulsed laser ablation. Crystal structure, magnetic properties, electrical transport and magnetoresistance of films prepared at different conditions have been studied. It was found that the film properties are extremely sensitive to the temperature of the substrate and the cooling rate. These parameters were optimized for the δ≈0.5 composition, in which Tb and Ba ions, as well as oxygen vacancies are ordered. These films show metal-insulator phase transitions at TM≈350 K. Spontaneous magnetization sets in below TC=285 K, and antiferromagnetic order was found at T<TN≈240 K. The obtained results are compared with measurements on ceramic samples and discussed in the frameworks of different models.
