Magnetotransport properties of thin films and multilayers of the Heusler alloys Cu2MnAl, Co2MnSb and Co2MnSi — •Andre Bergmann, Uwe Geiersbach, and Kurt Westerholt — Institut für Experimentalphysik IV Ruhr Universität Bochum 44780 Bochum Germany
Following electronic energy band structure calculations the intermetallic Heusler compounds Co2MnSi and Co2MnSb with the L21 structure are half metallic ferromagnets with a spin polarization of 100% at the Fermi level. This feature is very rare in metallic ferromagnets and very attractive for applications in spin transport. We report measurements of the electrical conductivity, magnetoresistance and Hall effect on thin films of the Heusler compounds Cu2MnAl, Co2MnSb and Co2MnSi prepared by RF sputtering on MgO (100) and Al2O3 a-plane. The residual resistivity of the Co-based Heusler compounds is rather high, indicating the presence of substantial disorder in the crystal lattice. All Heusler ferromagnts exhibit a large anomalous Hall coefficient. First magnetotransport measurements on multilayers of the Heusler compounds with V and Au as nonmagnetic interlayers are reported.
