Energy, Innovation Diffusion and Economic Growth — •Julian Henn1, Dietmar Lindenberger2, and Reiner Kümmel11Institut für Theoretische Physik, Universität Würzburg, 97074 Würzburg — 2Energiewirtschaftliches Institut an der Universität Köln, 50923 Köln

Economic growth in Germany, Japan and the USA during three decades is described by production functions that depend on capital, labor, energy, and three technology parameters. Time changes of these parameters because of innovation diffusion are calculated from the logistics differential equation. Their characteristic coefficients are determined by Levenberg-Marquardt least-squares minimization. The empirical evolution of the output of value added, including the recessions of the energy crises, is well reproduced. The productive power of energy turns out to be approximately as big as that of capital and labor together.
