Spontaneous emission of acoustic phonons can occur in electron transport experiments through a double quantum dot [1]. This happens if the energy of an electron is different in the two dots so that it can emit a phonon while tunneling between the dots [2]. Hence, the two quantum dots can be described as a two level system interacting with the phonon field and the electrons in the leads. We consider a system of several double quantum dots. Since they are all interacting with each other via the common phonon field, this system is expected to exhibit collective effects. In particular, we discuss phonon-superradiance, originally an optical effect, namely the coherent optical decay of a number of identical two level atoms [3]. As a realization of the phonon field, we consider surface acoustic waves (SAW). To estimate the coupling strength, we calculate the interaction coefficient of electrons in the quantum dot with SAW-phonons.
