High reflectivity ZnS/YF3 distributed Bragg-mirrors for microcavities in the green/blue spectral range — •Alexander Pawlis, Detlef Schikora, and Klaus Lischka — University of Paderborn, Department of Physics, D-33098 Paderborn, Germany

We report on the growth and characterisation of ZnS/YF3 multilayers, which are important for high reflectivity distributed Bragg-mirrors optimized in the green/blue spectral range. These structures can be used in II-VI semiconductor microcavities based on the Fabry-Perot etalon. The dependence of Bragg-mirror reflectivity at central wavelength from the number of stack-periods is investigated. It is shown that at least 8 pairs of ZnS/YF3 layers are sufficient for a reflectivity above R = 0.95. We measured the Bragg-mirror surface roughness as a function of the stack’s number by AFM. The increase of the root mean square roughness corresponds with the increase of the multilayer period and has strong influence on the mirror reflectivity. Furthermore we report on experiments connected with the temperature dependence of the mirror growth process, which is of importance to minimize the interface roughness.
