A resonance formalism is used to obtain an expression for the transmission coefficient T that is appropriate to describe resonances that are arbitrarily close to each other in energy. The resulting expressions are compared with the numerical calculation of T. For the quasi-isolated transmission maxima we obtain a particular expression of T as a sum of Fano functions with a complex asymmetry parameter plus the overlapping resonance terms.
