The structure of PTCDA (3,4,9,10-perylene-tetracarboxylic dianhydride) grown epitaxially on Ag(111) substrates has been studied using in-situ grazing incidence X-ray diffraction (GIXD) for different growth conditions. An extensive map of reciprocal space has been measured with 31 Bragg reflections. A pronounced splitting of certain reflections is found both in-plane as well as out-of-plane, providing evidence for a coexistence of the α and the β phase. The competition of the two polymorphs is discussed in terms of the influence of epitaxial strain, thickness, and growth temperature.
