Structure and Electrical Properties of Perfluorinated Phthalocyanine Thin Films — •Wilfried Michaelis, Karsten Hesse, and Derck Schlettwein — Universität Bremen, Institut für Angewandte und Physikalische Chemie, Postfach 330440,

Perfluorinated phthalocyanines are characterized as organic n-conductors. Films of F16PcCu and F16PcVO on NaCl, KCl, KBr, mica and amorphous SiO2 were prepared by physical vapour deposition. The electrical conductivity was measured in situ during the growth of the films. The growth of island or layers of the organic compound was observed in dependence on the molecular and substrate characteristics. Films could be prepared, that showed a significant conductivity already in the range of monolayer thickness. Field-effect mobilities in the range of 10−4cm2/Vs were determined using a microstructured SiO2 substrate. Optimization strategies to increase this value towards that observed in single crystals of these molecules (2cm2/Vs) are discussed in view of the results on the other substrates. The growth of the films was also monitored by optical absorption spectroscopy and differences in the intermolecular coupling within the films were detected.
