Organic thin films with sheet-and-stack order, based on intrastack donor-acceptor interactions. — •G. Ulbricht and N. Karl — 3. Phys. Inst., University of Stuttgart, D-70550 Stuttgart
Layer by layer growth is an important condition to obtain organic molecular thin films of high structural order and perfection. For planar molecules a bulk crystal structure of the sheet-and-stack type is an optimal precondition, but this packing type is rarely found among single component molecular materials. For two component complexes, composed of planar donor and acceptor type molecules, however, it is the rule. We have characterized (by UPS) the donor and acceptor properties of the nearly equal sized aromatic molecules diindeno-perylene (DIP) and perylene-tetracarboxylic-dianhydride (PTCDA), respectively, and studied the growth of DIP on a well-defined monolayer of PTCDA (on MoS2(0001)) by LEED, TDS and UPS.
