Monte-Carlo simulations of the quantum phase transition in disordered itinerant antiferromagnets — •Smaine Bekhechi, Thomas Vojta, and Michael Schreiber — Institut für Physik, TU Chemnitz, D-09107 Chemnitz, Germany
We consider the quantum phase transition of itinerant electrons from a paramagnet to an antiferromagnet in the presence of quenched disorder. In order to calculate thermodynamic properties close to the transition we use Monte-Carlo simulations of the order parameter field theory of itinerant quantum antiferromagnets which is equivalent to simulating a five-dimensional classical magnet with anisotropic disorder. Using finite-size scaling we calculate the critical behavior at the transition, in particular we determine under which conditions the critical behavior is activated rather than conventional power law behavior.
