Evolution of strain relaxation in manganite thin films — •Ulrich Gebhardt, Assunta Vigliante, Gerardina Carbone, Konstatinadous Hatzikyriakidis, and Peter Wochner — MPI für Metallforschung, Heisenbergstr. 1, 70569 Stuttgart

The observation of No-dqcolossalNo-dq magnetoresistance (CMR) in manganese oxides has generated considerable interest in the physical properties in this class of compounds, particular the interplay of structure, magnetism and electronic transport. From the properties of epitaxial thin film manganites may be quite different from the corresponding bulk materials, because of the presence of strain which can significantly alter the delicate balance between structure and magnetotransport properties. In this work, we have studied by means of X-ray scattering techniques the evolution of the structural properties of thin films La0.9Sr0.1MnO3, grown on SrTiO3 (001) substrate, as function of thickness. For thin films we observed sinoidal modulation of the lattice and coherent twinning for films thicker than 500 Å.
