The disordered quantum stripe array — •Simon Bogner, Stefan Scheidl, and Thomas Nattermann — Institut für Theoretische Physik, Universität zu Köln
We sketch the phase diagram of the disordered quantum stripe array. It is understood as the two dimensional lattice of elastic quantum strings in the presence of point disorder and an underlying lattice. Disorder, temperature and the quantum nature of the system tend to roughen the system while elasticity and the lattice potential exert restoring forces on the array. The interplay of these effects and the outcome of the competition with respect to large scale structural properties is examined. The model has frequently been used to describe fluctuations of the striped phase in perovskites such as the high Tc cuprates under the assumption of negligible stripe to stripe interaction. We examine the full system and find the periodicity of the array to be crucial on large scales.
