pi-SQUIDs and Order Parameter Phase Sensitive Experiments — •Boris Chesca and Reinhold Kleiner — Physikalisches Institut, Experimentalphysik II, Universitaet Tuebingen, Morgenstelle 14, D-72076 Tuebingen, Deutschland

Pairing symmetry in the cuprate superconductors remains a controversial issue. On the other hand establishment of the symmetry of the order parameter is crucial for the development of a rigorous theory for high transition temperature superconductors. Experiments with Josephson junctions based devices are the most direct and definitive tests of the phase symmetry in electron and hole doped superconductors having unconventional pairing symmetry. Improvement in accuracy of such phase sensitive tests is, therefore, expected to have an important impact. Recently, a novel pi-SQUID configuration has proven to be a useful tool to this respect [1,2]. Here, we report on the present status of phase-sensitive experiments involving such pi-SQUIDs.
