Electromagnetic transport components and sheared flows in plasma edge turbulence — •Volker Naulin — Assoc. Euratom - Risoe National Laboratory, Optics and Fluid Dynamics Dept., OFD-129, DK-4000 Roskilde, Daenemark
The usual paradigm for transport barriers is based on the argument that a sheared flows suppresses turbulence and transport via a decorrelation mechanism. We present results from 3D simulations of drift-Alfvén turbulence in a sheared magnetic field, that show an intrinsic relationship between the shear flows and magnetic field perturbations leading to a more complex behavior, where for larger values of the plasma beta the transport rises in the presence of shear flows.
