Covariant Thermodynamics of Quantum Systems — •Bernd Kuckert — II. Institut f. Theoretische Physik, Luruper Chaussee 149, 22761 Hamburg
The Pusz-Woronowicz theorem that a state of a von Neumann algebra is a KMS- or a ground state if and only if it exhibits complete semipassivity is generalized to a covariant version that characterizes moving homogeneous and stationary states of matter. For pure vacuum states of relativistic quantum field theories, the spectrum condition and the Unruh effect (the Bisognano-Wichmann symmetries) are derived from the only assumption that due to the absence of matter, passivity (not necessarily complete passivity!) must hold in all uniformly accelerated frames (including the inertial frames).
