Neutrino Trident Production from a Lead Nucleus — •D. Frekers, N. Bruski, D. Rondeshagen und T. Wolff — Institut für Kernphysik, Münster
We present experimental results on neutrino induced muon pair production (trident production) in the Coulomb field of a nucleus using the lead based calorimeter of the CHORUS neutrino detector at CERN. A clear signal with the trident signature was observed. The calculated cross section after considering various background processes in the region of vanishing hadronic activity at the vertex is in agreement with Standard Model calculations for trident production off a high-Z target and destructive W/Z0 interference.
