Measurement of Common Mode Noise in Front-end Binary Read-out systems — •Ashfaq Ahmad, Lutz Feld, Christian Ketterer, Jiri Bens, Carmon Carpentieri, Jens Meinhardt, Jens Ludwig, and Kay Runge — University of Freiburg, Faculty of Physics, Hermann-Herder-Strasse 3a,D-79104 Freiburg, Germany

Common mode noise refers to a variation of the signal, which affects groups of channels in a coherent way. It can be caused by a common electromagnetic pick up, noise on the supply voltage etc.

It is of particular concern when silicon microstrip detectors are read out using a binary scheme in which the signals are compared to a threshold and converted to binary information on the front end chip. Therefore methods are needed to detect and measure coherent noise. Different estimators for the magnitude of common mode noise in a binary readout system will be introduced. Simulation results and applications to real data from ATLAS SCT Endcap modules will be shown.
