Measurement of Bottom Electroproduction at HERA — •Vincenzo Chiochia1 and Tancredi Carli2 — 1DESY, Notkestrasse 85, 22603 Hamburg — 2Inst. f. Exp. Physik. Univ. Hamburg, Notkestrasse 85, Hamburg
A raising interest has been recently focused on bottom quark production which rapresents a good example of multi-scale process in QCD. Actual cross-section measurements at Tevatron, LEP and HERA show a sizable disagreement respect to the NLO predictions. First results on bottom quark production in positron-proton deep inelastic scattering will be presented using 1999/2000 data recorded by the ZEUS detector. The center of mass energy is 320 GeV and the integrated luminosity 66 pb−1. The bottom quark production and its semileptonic decay to muons is reconstructed using the barrel and rear muon chambers. The separation from charm quark and light quark background is performed by fitting the distribution of the muon transverse momentum respect to the jet axis using Monte Carlo simulations. Results will be presented for the kinematical range Q2 >2 GeV2, 0.05<y<0.7 and muon momenta greater than 2 GeV/c.
