The Monitored Drift Tube (MDT) chambers for the ATLAS Muon Spectrometer consist of three or four layers of pressurized drift tubes on either side of a space frame which carries an optical monitoring system for measuring deformations. We report about the serial production of one of the largest chamber types. One of the requirements for achieving the desired muon track resolution of 40 µm is to have the signal wires positioned within each chamber with 20 µm accuracy. The wire positions have been measured in four of our MDT chambers with an X-ray scanning device at CERN. In addition, the dependence of the wire coordinates and chamber deformations on temperature gradients has been studied.
