Potential of GENIUS-TF in searching for the annual modulation of a Dark Matter signal — •Tomei Claudia, Klapdor-Kleingrothaus Hans Volker, Dietz Alexander, Dörr Christian, Krivosheina Irina, Mazza Daniele, and Strecker Herbert — Max-Planck-Institut für Kernphysik, Saupfercheckweg 1, 69117 Heidelberg
Annual modulation due to the motion of the Earth around the Sun is a well known signature of the WIMP signal induced in underground detectors and, at the present state, is the best prospect for directly detecting those weakly interacting particles. The DAMA experiment has already claimed for the observation of such an effect. GENIUS-TF is a test facility for the GENIUS project, a proposal for a large scale detector of rare events. It will be build up at the LNGS during the year 2002. With about 40 kg of natural Ge detectors operating in liquid nitrogen, it will be able to look for the annual modulation effect with a different experimental technique from the DAMA experiment, and exclude (or directly confirm) the DAMA signature. This talk will discuss in detail the possible types of statistical analysis for the annual modulation signal and show the potential of GENIUS-TF to look for this effect. A report on the status of the GENIUS-TF experiment will also be presented.
