We apply a new spectroscopic instrument (Airborne Multi-AXis DOAS = AMAXDOAS) operating on research aircrafts to measure column densities and profiles of several atmospheric gases. AMAXDOAS consists of two spectrometers covering the UV and VIS range, which are connected to 20 telescopes pointing in different directions in both, the stratosphere and troposphere. So it is possible to separate the tropospheric and stratospheric gas columns for a significant number of species like Ozone, NO2, BrO, IO, HCHO, SO2, and OClO. The AMAXDOAS instrument will be used in 2002 and 2003 for the validation of the new SCIAMACHY spectrometer.
