Ordinary differential equation solver and long time behavior of realistic pollutants in the troposphere — •H. Lustfeld1 and D. Poppe2 — 1Forschungszentrum Jülich, IFF, 52425 Jülich — 2Forschungszentrum Jülich, ICG II, 52425 Jülich
An enormous amount of CPU time for solving
stiff differential equations is required to get
insight into the long time properties of pollutants in the
troposphere. Various integration schemes have been applied in the past.
The best known
are variants of Gear’s[1] method whereas extrapolation schemes[2]
are rarely used. We show that in many cases extrapolation
schemes are simpler and faster. Using them we present long time
behavior of pollutant concentrations over a wide range of parameters.
