A Monte-Carlo based understanding of the lepton induced Cherenkov ring recognition in the RICH detector is crucial for the whole lepton identification in the HADES spectrometer.

A dedicated measurement was performed which allows to study the response of the RICH detector to the photon signal. The results of these studies were used to optimize the digitasation procedure for the RICH detector, in order to achieve a good agreement between real and simulated data for the heavy ion reaction environment.

A set of full GEANT simulations of the HADES spectrometer, using UrQMD and thermal sources as input, was analysed and compared to the experimental data for the reaction C+C@1.5AGeV and Cr+Al@1.5AGeV. The quantitative evaluation of these comparisons will be presented.
