Br.
Scintillating fibre detectors are at the present the only technology capable of tracking at rates of 106 particles/s/mm2.
Such capability is required for tracking in the central area of the spectrometer at the COMPASS experiment. Eight detector stations with 19 planes having space resolutions between 0.5 and 1.0 mm have been realized. Results from the 2001 beam time which show that these fibre hodoscopes fulfil all expectations in the areas of time resolution and efficiency will be presented.
