The new TAPS electronics — •Peter Drexler — II. Physikalisches Institut, Justus-Liebig-Universität Giessen

To adapt the photonspectrometer TAPS to the needs of advanced, state-of-the-art experiments, a completely new readout for 4 channels per module has been designed to replace and improve the currently used electronics. The main goal for the new design has been the need for a better handling, easier maintainance, improved performance and the capability to cope with higher rates. The readout of a typical TAPS-BaF2-signal comprises 4 QACs for the separate integration of the long and short scintillation components in two different dynamic ranges, a TAC and 2 LEDs for more sophisticated trigger conditions. A CFD is included to optimize the timing information. A PLD provides the slow control. These combined analog and digital functions are implemented on a piggyback residing on a commercial motherboard, developed by the HADES collaboration. Therefore, the compatibility allows combined experiments with the HADES setup. First results of in-beam test experiments obtained with the new electronics with regard to energy and time resolution will be presented.
