The isospin dependence of the nuclear equation-of-state is still rather unknown away from saturation density; however, it is important in the structure of unstable nuclei and in astrophysical contexts. One way to test it is in heavy ion collisions at high density (nuclear flow) and at low density (in fragmentation processes). In this contribution we investigate the second approach. Fragmentation reactions are seen as signatures of chemical and mechanical instabilities and phase transitions in binary proton-neutron systems, which are influenced significantly by the isospin dependence of the eos. We investigate these phenomena in the framework of transport calculations, where we follow in particular the isospin dynamics, i.e. the evolution of the charge asymmetry of the fragments (liquid) and the light particles (gas) in relation to the initial asymmetry. Such processes have recently been studied experimentally and we make first comparisons to data.
